Qui adest, habetwho is present, has

Nothing here updates itself.
That is deliberate, and it is also your problem.

First, what have you got

Plug the board in and open your wallet, then look at the station tab. The line marked firmware is what is actually running on the board in front of you, read off the board itself rather than off anything we keep.

Nothing on your own computer knows that number. Not the folder, not the little server, nothing. The board is the only thing that can say, and the page is the only thing that asks it. So this is the check, and there is no other one.

If that line is blank, the page is not talking to the board. Almost always the cable: a charge-only cable lights the screen and your computer never sees a thing. A blue USB 3 cable always carries data.

Updating the folder

If you took your copy from a station with git, you are on a version and you can move to the current one. From inside the folder:

git -c http.proxy=socks5h://127.0.0.1:9050 pull

Or, if the station is on your own network and you did not need Tor:

git pull

To see what you are about to accept before you accept it, which is the entire reason this is a repository and not a download:

git fetch
git log --oneline HEAD..origin/main
git diff HEAD..origin/main

If you took your copy as a single file instead, there is nothing to pull. Take it again from the same place and replace the folder. Your money is not in there and never was.

Updating the board

This is the half that is not ready, so here is exactly where it stands rather than a promise.

The firmware goes up on 12 December, with the manifest and the listener. Until then the only published copy sits inside the station bundle, which is not open yet.

Two things about that day, so nobody is surprised by them.

An update is not a wipe, and the words will tell you which one is happening. The writing lands after the part of the chip that holds your key and your records, so a plain update keeps your key, your balance, your channel and your history. A whole-chip write does not, and it is a different operation with a different name. Watch the verb. If anything ever says it is flashing rather than updating, stop.

Check your channel afterwards, every time. A board can come back from a write listening on a different frequency than the one it was on, and nothing about it looks wrong: the screen is lit, the number is there, the board is fine. It simply cannot hear the radio it used to earn with, and it will sit there quietly earning nothing. The station tab shows the frequency. Look at it before and after, and if it moved, move it back.
